Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is WRAS approval mandatory?

In the United Kingdom, WRAS (Water Regulations Advisory Scheme) approval is not required, but it is strongly advised. The Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 and the Scottish Water Byelaws require WRAS approval to demonstrate that a product, material, or fitting complies with the regulations. WRAS-approved products are deemed safe for use in the UK's water supply systems and are thus accepted by local water authorities.

Although WRAS approval is not legally required, building control officers and water companies frequently require it when installing water-related products. As a result, WRAS approval can help reduce the risk of noncompliance while also ensuring that the product meets the necessary standards and regulations.

What is the role of the WRAS?

The WRAS (Water Regulations Advisory Scheme) is a UK-based organisation that promotes and ensures the safe and efficient use of water while also protecting public health. The primary function of WRAS is to advise and assist individuals, organisations, and businesses in ensuring that their water-related products, materials, and fittings comply with the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 and the Scottish Water Byelaws.

What is the WRAS course?

The WRAS course is intended for engineers, installers, and contractors who work in the plumbing, heating, and water industries. It gives participants a thorough understanding of the rules and regulations that must be followed when working with water-related products, materials, and fittings.

The course covers topics such as water fitting requirements, installation and maintenance of water-related products, and procedures for ensuring that water supply systems are safe and in compliance with regulations. It also discusses how to obtain WRAS approval for products, materials, and fittings.

Will I get a certificate?

After passing the multiple-choice assessment, which covers background and legislation, materials and substances in contact with water, requirements for water fittings, water system design, installation commissioning, cross connections, black flow prevention, cold water services, hot water services, WCs and urinals, sanitary appliances, and water for outside use, a certificate of competence will be issued.
