Why Should My Employees Attend a First Aid Training Course

You must provide first-aid equipment, facilities, and personnel so that your workers may receive prompt assistance if they are injured or become ill at work according to the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981.

Only an “appointed person” is required in some first-aid evaluations, which implies that they don’t need any training. However, depending on the outcome of your first-aid assessment, other firms will be required to obtain EFAW or FAW qualifications and have trained one or more employees.

How Long Does a First Aid Training Certificate Last For?

In most circumstances, first-aid certificates are valid for three years before they must be renewed; however, the HSE recommends that you take a refresher course once a year.

When you complete your first aid at work training course or an emergency first aid at work course, you’ll be given a certificate that is valid for three years. To obtain a new first aid at work certificate, you must take a two-day refresher course. This refresher needs to be completed within 28 days of the expiration date on your previous certificate.

For an emergency first aid at work certificate, you’ll complete the same course again to renew your qualification.

There are other variations of first-aid certification that have different expiration and renewal requirements. A paediatric first aid certificate, for example, may be renewed every three years; but an AED defibrillator certificate will only be valid for one year before you must take a refresher course to renew it.
