Online First Aid Courses & Training Overview

For any workplace of at least 25 to 50 employees, it is necessary to have at least one qualified first aider. Understandably, employees may be concerned about how long it takes to take a first aid course certificate.

But employers are not the only ones worried about looking after people’s health. Families also want to be on the safe side to be able to look after their loved ones. From knowing how to react when a relative faints to knowing the right gesture to save a baby, first aid can be crucial. But where do you find time to attend a first aid course as a busy parent?

As the pandemic has encouraged many training providers to offer online content, it would seem logical to look for online first aid course material. However, while you can find online first aid information and documentation online, it is important to understand how FAW and EFAW qualifications work. Can an online first aid course make you a qualified first aider?

First aid course requirements for businesses

First of all, before considering the possibility of finding online training, it is crucial to determine the appropriate type of first aid course. Indeed, businesses can find two different first aid training types:

  • EFAW, emergency first aid at work training, focuses on teaching basic life-saving first aid skills to respond to emergency injuries or illnesses in a low-risk workplace.
  • FAW, first aid at work training, includes emergency response teaching as well as non-life-threatening events.

Each specific training has a specific syllabus, which affects its length. The EFAW course needs 1 day. The FAW course is taught over 3 days. Regardless of the duration of the first aid course, participants are expected to demonstrate what they have learnt throughout the session, using:

  • CPR dummies
  • defibrillators
  • first aid box
  • Etc.

There is no written test. In-person classes and practice is necessary to earn the first aid qualifications. According to government regulations, first aid training qualifications received online are not valid. In other words, if you seek either FAW or EFAW certifications in a professional environment, there is no other choice than to attend a course in person. Qualifications are then valid for 3 years.

The online business e-training available is our first aid refresher online, which ensures your qualified first aiders are kept up-to-date with the latest advances.

First aid course requirements as a parent

As a parent, your first aid needs are not the same as a company. You have no legal requirement to meet. Instead, your main focus is to be able to look after your loved ones. Consequently, our online first aid course range for parents and families is not designed to give you a professional certification.

But it will prove essential in giving you the tools to assess a situation and respond quickly and effectively to health emergencies and scares. The syllabus will teach you how to handle allergic reactions, bleeding, fracture, seizure, burns, and more in babies, children, and adults. You will also learn how to put together a first aid kit.

Our online first aid courses for families are not designed to replace first aid in-person certifications. But they can teach you how to assist your family in the event of a health problem.

The role of online first aid courses

At Skills Training Group, we understand that it can be tricky to make time for first aid training. We strongly recommend our online courses to parents who want to be better equipped to manage common childhood illnesses and injuries. These courses are designed to help you understand what you can do as a first-role aider and how to act for the safety of your loved ones.

We have developed our online course selection as an informative and accessible first aid overview for everyone. Understanding the situation and being able to assess it can prevent a lot of stress and panicked decisions.

What if I want to find out more about first aid?

Our online courses will offer educational content. If you want to learn the right gestures, such as CPR or the Heimlich Maneuver, we strongly recommend attending one of our in-person first aid courses that can ensure:

  • practice on dummies
  • feedback from a qualified trainer in real time
  • the use of medical equipment

Attending an in-person course will not only get you a recognised certification, but it can also boost your confidence in an emergency situation. Indeed, we believe that the skills you can practice are more likely to stick around than those you learn online.
