    Course overview

This specialist qualification enables operatives to commission, service, repair, and maintain gas boosters typically found in commercial plant rooms, industrial installations, and large-scale buildings.

This course includes training, assessment, and certification, all delivered in one day. The total cost is £310 + VAT. No prior training is mandatory to take the assessment, but a sound working knowledge of commercial gas systems is essential.

    Entry Requirements

To undertake this BMP1 course, operatives must already hold one of the following gas safety qualifications:

    • COCN1 – Core Commercial Gas Safety
      or

    • CODNCO1 – Changeover Domestic to Commercial Gas Safety

Additionally, if working on pipework with a diameter greater than 50mm, the ICPN1 (Installation of Commercial Pipework) qualification is also required.

    Modules breakdown

This intensive 1-day course covers all aspects of working with commercial gas boosters, including:

    • The principles and function of medium pressure gas boosters

    • Commissioning procedures and best practices

    • Routine servicing and preventative maintenance

    • Fault diagnosis and repair techniques

    • Working safely with associated controls and pipework

    • Relevant legislation and compliance with industry standards

Training focuses on practical, real-world application and safety considerations, helping engineers build confidence and competence for on-the-job scenarios.

    Assessment

Assessment is included in the course and typically involves:

    • A combination of practical exercises and written/multiple-choice tests

    • Demonstration of safe working practices

    • Correct application of industry knowledge to fault-find and repair gas booster systems

You will be assessed by a qualified assessor, and successful candidates will receive certification confirming their competency in BMP1.

    Books Required

No books are provided or required for this course. All necessary handouts and reference materials will be issued on the day of training.

    Course Certification

On successful completion of the course and assessment, operatives will receive a BMP1 Commercial Gas Boosters certificate from LCL Awards, demonstrating their qualification to work on medium pressure commercial gas boosters up to 0.5 bar pressure in non-domestic environments. This certification is part of the ACS (Accredited Certification Scheme) and is a legal requirement for working on this type of equipment in the UK.
