Understanding the IET Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing
Appliance classes and what they mean in practice
The importance of detailed visual inspections
Recognising common electrical faults
Recording results correctly and maintaining documentation
Establishing risk-based retesting intervals
You will gain a clear understanding of how PAT testing fits into wider workplace safety compliance, and how to demonstrate due diligence if inspected.
Afternoon Session – Practical PAT Testing
The afternoon is fully focused on hands-on learning. Under trainer supervision, you will:
Use professional PAT testing equipment
Carry out inspections on a range of appliances
Interpret pass and fail readings accurately
Complete inspection labels and records correctly
Understand what action to take following failed results
Apply risk-based thinking to retest schedules
The emphasis is on practical competence. You will physically test appliances yourself and leave confident in your ability to carry out PAT testing in real environments.

This course is suitable for complete beginners. It is delivered in a clear, structured format that assumes no formal qualifications. You do not need to be an electrician to attend or to carry out PAT testing professionally.
Certification
Upon successful completion, you will receive a Skills Training Group PAT Testing Certificate.
This certificate confirms you have been trained in accordance with current UK guidance and industry best practice, including the IET Code of Practice. The training aligns with HSE expectations for maintaining electrical equipment safely in the workplace.
