COURSE OVERVIEW
Skills Training Group’s OFTEC oil boiler training and assessment package course covers the following three main OFTEC certificates:

OFT10-101 – Single stage pressure jet servicing and commissioning
This course is for technicians who wish to service and commission pressure-jet appliances. The vast majority of household boilers fall into this category. The course covers a variety of areas, including health and safety, fire valve installation, regional legislation and requirements, safe electrical isolation, knowledge of oil storage and supply, knowledge of appliance installation, knowledge of heating systems, and practical servicing and commissioning. -
OFT10-105E – Installation of oil-fired combustion appliances
This course is for technicians who wish to install oil-fired appliances such as boilers and AGAs. Areas covered by this course include health and safety, fire valve installation, regional legislation and requirements, safe electrical isolation, knowledge of oil storage and supply, appliance installation, heating systems, and energy efficiency. -
OFT10-600a – Installation of oil fuel storage and supply systems
This course is for technicians who wish to install oil tanks and associated pipework and equipment. Areas covered by this course include Health and Safety, fire valve installation, regional legislation and requirements, safe electrical isolation, and oil storage and supply.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
The oil boiler course is best suited to experienced heating engineers or plumbers but is open to candidates who have relevant skills and experience gained from working in a related trade such as Plumbing / Heating / Ventilation / Refrigeration / Air-Conditioning / Gas Fitting or servicing.
DO I NEED THIS COURSE?
The OFTEC oil boiler training and assessment package is a necessary requirement for installers and maintenance technicians requiring OFTEC registration.
COURSE CONTENT/SYLLABUS
The course includes training and assessment on the following modules:
- Domestic/light commercial pressure jet appliance commissioning and oil boiler servicing course (OFT101)
- Domestic oil firing installation and energy conservation measures in buildings (OFT105E)
- Domestic and non-domestic oil boiler storage installation and supply (OFT600a)
TRAINING MANUALS
Candidates will be given the following OFTEC training manuals are part of their course:
OFTEC Technical Manual 1 – Safe working practices for oil firing and delivery technicians
OFTEC Technical Manual 2 – Oil firing service and commissioning
OFTEC Technical Manual 3 – Installation requirements for oil storage and supply systems
OFTEC Technical Manual 4 – Installation of oil-fired appliances and associated heating systems
ASSESSMENT METHOD
Assessment is carried out using a variety of methods, including multiple-choice, short written response and scenario questions and observed practical assessment.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING WITH ME?
You should bring the following with you to your course:
- One passport sized photograph (if not already sent)
- Formal ID (Passport or Driving Licence)
- Copies of prior learnings, such as ACS or plumbing certificates
