Qualifications and licensing, explained
Your qualification
Our full Door Supervisor and Security Guard courses lead to a Highfield qualification when you pass the required assessments. Highfield is the awarding organisation.
Your SIA licence
The SIA is the licensing authority. Apply to it separately after qualifying; it checks your eligibility and decides your application. The licence fee is separate from your course price.
From choosing a course to applying for your licence
- Choose your route. Match the course to the licence you want or need to renew.
- Get ready to attend. Check your first aid, original ID and any required pre-course learning.
- Train and pass the assessments. Complete your course and achieve the relevant qualification.
- Apply separately to the SIA. The SIA checks your eligibility and decides your application. Its current £204 fee is separate from training.
Training does not guarantee a licence or a job. The full course pages explain suitable roles and include visible links to current local job searches, so you can explore opportunities before booking.

Questions before choosing your course
Do I need experience to start?
The full Door Supervisor and Security Guard courses are for new entrants. Refresher courses are for people who already hold the relevant qualification and licence history. You must be at least 18 to apply for an SIA licence.
Can a Door Supervisor licence be used for Security Guard jobs?
Yes, a Door Supervisor licence also covers security guarding. A Security Guard licence does not cover licensed door-supervision duties. Some vacancies have extra requirements, so read the job description carefully.
Does the course price include my SIA licence?
No. Training and the SIA application are separate. The current licence application fee is £204, paid to the SIA. Course prices on this page include VAT; first aid is separate unless you book a package.
Can you arrange first aid with my course?
Yes. Call to arrange the right first-aid and security dates together. First aid must be completed before security training and requires additional attendance.
Is the training in Glasgow city centre?
No. Our security courses run at Units 1–3, 5 Murray Street, Paisley, PA3 1QG, near Glasgow. There is free on-site parking and nearby rail access from Paisley Gilmour Street and Paisley St James.
Where can I see dates and availability?
